No
partners required!
Swing is a social dance, more so than many other dances. Why?
Because anywhere you go in the world, follow swing dancers always
try to dance with as many people they can, and usually make it
a duty to dance with people they don't know. As such, no partners
is required! In classes, we balance out the number of girls and
guys so it fits.
On the dance floor, ask anyone for a dance, ask us!
Dance shoes - NO HEELS PLEASE!
The most important gear of a dancer is his/her shoes. Generally
speaking, the more your shoes can slide, the better it is. We
strongly do not suggest rubber shoes, unless they are worn out.
For men: We suggest leather soles. Many dancers
around the world have a shoemaker to add a suede or leather
sole to their sneakers for more comfort, but this is by no way
necessary. If you ain't have leather soles, wear your worn out
shoes.
Bottom line: the more slippery the better.
For women: The same rule for men applies for
girls. We suggest leather soles. Many dancers around the world
have a shoemaker to add a suede or leather sole to their sneakers
for more comfort, but this is by no way necessary. If you ain't
have leather soles, wear your worn out shoes.
One thing of note is that you should really really
really not consider heels.
Clothing
Anything goes! Keep it comfortable and light - you might find
the night is getting hot as you dance :-) |
